Many of us have grown up singing songs in church services. However, some of the most special and memorable church songs are the ones we sing during the Christmas season– songs like, “Joy to the World!” in which we joyfully exclaim the phrase, “repeat the sounding joy” three times in the second verse.
But there is more to singing in church than just “special” and “memorable” songs. In Psalm 96, the Psalmist tells us to “Sing a new song to the Lord; let the whole earth sing to the Lord” because singing the Lord’s praises does something important for our faith. In this sermon series, we’ll take a closer look at four of the songs sung during the very first Christmas season. We’ll hear what it sounded like for Peace to finally rest on earth back then and we’ll explore what it means to “repeat the sounding joy” as a people who practice waiting for and receiving the gift of our Savior here and now.
